April 28, 2017

Dear Parents,

Now that we are wrapping up April and entering May (someone told me there are only 18 school days left this year!), our district begins to reflect back on the year and celebrate our staff.  The Mehlville School District Recognition Night takes place on Thursday of next week.  The staff will gather for a banquet to recognize our outstanding staff members.  This year, Mrs. Julie Durham has been named the Wohlwend Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Jimmy Dolan is being recognized as our Classified Employee of the Year, and Mrs. Gisela Rohatsch is being honored for her years of service as she prepares to retire at the end of the school year.  Congratulations to all of these wonderful employees for their hard work!

In other exciting news, today Kristy Voithofer, our first grade teacher, was recognized with a $500 award on the KPLR 11 mid-day news.  Kristy won the “Tools for Teachers” award after being recommended by Joe Roberds, the father of one of her students.  Mrs. Voithofer took part in a live interview with Mr. Roberds, and they both did great!  Here’s a link to their segment: http://kplr11.com/2017/04/28/mehlville-educator-wins-tools-for-teachers-award/.

Here’s a calendar of upcoming events:

Saturday, May 6thThe annual school picnic will take place from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the playground.  PAWS is still looking for volunteers.  If you’d like to help out, follow this link to sign up:  https://tinyurl.com/lt7pzpz.

Tuesday, May 9thMay 9th is Teacher Appreciation Day.  Thank you to PAWS for organizing a luncheon for our staff!

Friday, May 12thOur 5th grade students will travel to the Carondolet YMCA for the 5th Grade Party.

Those are all of our updates for this week.  Stay dry this weekend!

Sincerely,

Dave Meschke, Ed. D.
