Reading and Math Curriculum
Wohlwend uses the Balanced Literacy program that
incorporates many components of reading and writing. These components
include: guided reading, shared reading, familiar reading, independent
journal, writer's workshop, interactive writing, sound analysis, and
many more instructional approaches.
Wohlwend students utilize the My Math program for
mathemtics. My Math customizes math instruction so students are able to
successfully develop their calculation and problem-solving skills.
Parents and students can gain access to My Math online at connected.mcgraw-hill.com.
For students with special educational needs,
Wohlwend offers Care Team staffings and interventions, three resource
rooms, one self-contained learning disorder and behavioral disorder
classrom, one classroom for autistic children, one classroom for Early
Childhood, and "Class Within A Class" and inclusion programs.
Gifted students can enroll in the district's gifted program, STRETCH.
Curriculum Enrichment Activities
Wohlwend offers a variety of programs free of charge, such
as Academic Olympics, conflict resolution, perfect attendance
incentives, A+ Tutoring, Foundation Tutoring, peer tutoring, peer
mediation, service clubs, sister classes across grade levels, D.A.R.E.,
reading incentive programs and instrumental music.
